Chelsea transfer news: Andreas Christensen wanted by Thierry Henry at Monaco

ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN is set to be offered an escape from his Chelsea misery by Thierry Henry and Monaco.

The Danish international made 40 appearances last season under former boss Antonio Conte as he was voted the Blues’ Young Player of the Year.

But the centre-back has failed to figure at all in the Premier League this term with his only appearances coming in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

The 22-year-old, signed by Chelsea from Bronby six years ago, recently voiced his unhappiness and hinted at a move despite under contract until 2022.

Monaco, the 2017 French champions, have now set their sights on a move for Christensen.

The wealthy Monte Carlo outfit are struggling near the foot of Ligue 1.

Arsenal legend Henry, who has newly been appointed club coach, is planning a raft of January signings to galvanise the club.

And Monaco possess an extra ace up their sleeves in sporting director Michael Emenalo – who knows Christensen well from their time together at Stamford Bridge.

Borussia Monchengladbach, where the Dane spent two successful seasons, have also expressed an interest in taking him back.

However the German club had to admit defeat in the face of the defender’s likely salary demands.

Monaco would have no such constraints as they seek to rebuild after a dire start to the season.

And French sources claim boss Henry hopes to sign Christensen on an initial loan with the view to a permanent move.

The 22-cap international has made 46 senior Blues appearances, and played 82 times for Monchengladbach – scoring seven goals for the Bundesliga side.

Monaco lost 2-1 at Strasbourg in Henry’s first game in charge.

They are joint bottom of Ligue 1 and are 24 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
