Chelsea duo Lucas Piazon and Tomas Kalas set to join Fulham in £8m permanent deal

FULHAM are set to make Chelsea’s Lucas Piazon and Tomas Kalas their first signings since winning promotion back to the Premier League.

The pair, who both spent the past two seasons on loan at Craven Cottage, will cost Fulham a combined £8million.

Neither were able to make their mark at Stamford Bridge, with Kalas making just two league appearances in his eight years at the club and Piazon only one in a seven-season stint.

Czech centre-back Kalas was loaned out seven times, and said in one interview: “I am a player for training sessions. If they need a cone, they put me there instead.”

Piazon joined from Sao Paulo in his native Brazil in 2011, spending time at Malaga, Vitesse, Eintracht Frankfurt and Reading before arriving at Fulham.

According to the Daily Star, both players will now end their troubled time at the Bridge, with Fulham looking to keep together much of the same team that brought them back to the top flight.

Piazon and Kalas were crucial elements of the team that secured promotion through the play-offs in 2017-18, making a combined 61 appearances in all competitions.

Fulham could also make a move for fellow loanee Aleksandar Mitrovic, who hinted he was looking to leave Newcastle United this summer having been frozen out by manager Rafa Benitez.

Mitrovic scored 12 times in 17 regular-season games for Fulham after joining in January, describing his spell with them as “the best three and a half, four months of my career.”

Fulham lost right-back Ryan Fredericks to West Ham earlier this month, and Chelsea are rumoured to be circling over manager Slavisa Jokanovic too, with Antonio Conte’s future still uncertain.

Slovenian Jokanovic, an outsider for the job should Conte be sacked, was touted by Blues winger Pedro as an excellent candidate for the role.

He told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser: “We know there might be some changes.

“We know he (Jokanovic) is a great manager.”

Fulham secured a return to the Premier League last month after four years away, overcoming Aston Villa 1-0 in the Championship play-off final after being pipped to automatic promotion by Cardiff City.
