Roy Hodgson wants Jack Wilshere at Crystal Palace to boost relegation fight and midfielder’s World Cup hopes

ROY HODGSON wants to sign Jack Wilshere in January to boost Crystal Palace’s hopes of avoiding relegation.

Former England boss Hodgson believes Arsenal star Wilshere has the creative quality his side needs to climb out of the bottom three in the Premier League.

The Telegraph say the Palace boss will try to tempt the midfielder to Selhurst Park in January with the lure of regular first team football.

And with Wilshere still retaining hopes about forcing his way into the England squad before the World Cup, swapping the bench for a starting role could be hard for the player to ignore.

The 25-year-old is yet to start a Premier League match for the Gunners this season after missing the first month of the campaign through injury.

Wilshere has put in the hours in training to get back to full fitness and produced a series of impressive displays in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

But he is yet to gain the full trust of manager Arsene Wenger to name him from the start in the Premier League – and that has proved a big frustration.

Wilshere is desperate to force his way into the England reckoning ahead of the World Cup, but his lack of games cost him a call-up for the matches against Germany and Brazil.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate says he couldn’t consider the Arsenal star because of his lack of game – and even when injuries struck he opted to turn to Jake Livermore and Jack Cork instead.

With a run of games and good form under his belt it seems logical Wilshere would be under consideration by Southgate, but until he plays that situation cannot change.

Hodgson is a huge fan of the midfielder, taking him to the World Cup in 2014 even though he was not fully fit and making it clear he would always start if possible.

That faith in his ability would be a big incentive for Wilshere to swap the Emirates for Selhurst Park on loan, even though his Arsenal contract expires at the end of the season.

Fellow strugglers West Ham have also retained a strong interest, and they would be open to a move in January if Wilshere became available.
